Water makes about 70 percent of our entire body and is essential for performing various bodily functions. One of its several functions is to aid in digestion. Some people drink cold water with meals or warm water after meals, both of which could impair your digestion. Studies have shown that drinking cold water with meals is bad and it could result in several health impacts. In Ayurveda , drinking water while eating is not encouraged as it slows down the digestion.
Drinking cold water with your meal(s) could cause indigestion by changing the stability of the foods eaten, thus making them more tricky to digest. Further improper digestion could cause several issues like heart burn, bloating, irritability, food cravings, headaches and upset stomach among many others.
Solidify Oil Foods
Drinking cold water with your meal containing fatty food could solidify any oily product in your food and could negatively affect your health . Studies have shown that drinking cold water right after eating can cause indigestion as cold water changes the consistency of the foods that you have eaten, making them difficult to digest. Longer digestion could result in acid reflux issues.
Water Drinking Tips
It is recommended to drink water or other liquids about 30 minutes before eating or about an hour after eating. Drinking water at proper time before and after meal could hep in preventing digestive issues and other health issues as mentioned above. Drinking water at room temperature is recommended.
