There are several health benefits of drinking water. It is vital for our normal bodily functions. As dehydration is bad for our health, over hydration is equally dangerous. Too much water intake can lead to water intoxication resulting in low levels of sodium in your blood stream, which in turn can negatively affect your health. Here are few signs that could tell if you are drinking way too much water than needed.

 

1.  Drinking even when You are Not Thirsty

Our body has a mechanism (One of these mechanism is thirst) to fight against dehydration.  The best way to know if your body needs more water is to be aware of whether or not you actually feeling thirsty. The more water your body needs, the thirstier you get. Symptoms of Dehydration

 

2.  Constantly drinking water

Are you someone who carries the water bottle constantly, refilling it every time the water finishes, then you could be someone who is drinking too much water.

3.  Frequent Urination During The Night

If you are often waking up in the middle of the night to urinate, it could be a sign that you are drinking too much water. If you are urinating more than 10 times a day, you could be drinking more water than you body actually needs.

 

4.  Bad Headache

Bad headache could be a sign of both over-hydration as well as dehydration. Too much water, reduces the salt concentration in our body causing the body cells to swell. Same things happen with the brain. When you drink too much water, your brain grows in size and exerts pressure which can cause a throbbing headache.

 

5.  Having Clear urine

Drinking healthy amount of water results in straw-colored to transparent yellow urine. But if you have clear urine, with no pigmentation at all, it could be a sign that you are drinking too much water. Normal amount of water varies among an individual’s height, weight and exercise patterns.

 

6.  Feeling Nauseous

Symptoms of dehydration and over hydration are somewhat similar, like nausea and vomiting. Excess intake of water could affect the functioning of the kidneys as a result of which kidneys become unable to get rid of the excess liquid, which could result in  vomiting, diarrhea and nausea.

 

7.  Muscle cramps and weakness
