Common Things in Your Home That Can Affect Your Lungs

There are various items found in our homes that could cause damage to our lungs and can result in mere irritation to life-threatening cancer. Here are few items you should be really careful while dealing with.

Bleach

BleachDisinfectants like Bleach, ammonia or chlorine can be really bad for people who already have lung disease such as asthma or chronic obstructive pulmonary disease. It can easily cause irritation. Best way to combat the harmful effects of these cleaning products is, by substituting them with simple soap and water.

According to studies “Mere soap and water or even just water can remove majority of bacteria and viruses”. Try using chemical-free cleaning product as a substitute to harmful ones.

Vacuuming can cause even more dust. People with nasal allergies could experience symptoms and this medical problem as though not severe, could become annoying and disabling. Rather than dry sweeping try damp mopping the floor or use a vacuum with HEPA filter that could help in reducing seasonal allergy symptoms.

Mold are common in spots with excessive moisture, like under the sink or around bathroom walls and carpet that is exposed to water. One should get rid of mold immediately as this can really damage lungs once when breathe in.

Rugs and carpets hold large amount of dust than hard flooring. According to National Survey of Lead and Allergens in Housing, households that have more dust have been found to have more wheezing and asthma. One usually doesn’t tart coughing from one experience with a dusty carpet, but if your lungs are extra sensitive from asthma or COPD, then it could be harmful.
The dust loaded homes can be the cause of silent symptoms of asthma.

Try renovating the room with proper circulation of fresh air. Paint has these harmful chemicals called VOCs which could not only irritating things to things but also can cause cancers.

Asbestos is harmful and the home which is really old might contain asbestos which could cause pulmonary fibrosis and cancer of tissue lining of the lungs and other organs. If the insulation is improper, then try testing for asbestos.
