Your Earwax Could Reveal A Lot About Your Health

Earwax or cerumen is meant for protecting the skin of our ear canal from drying and cracking. It also assists in cleaning and lubrication, and for protecting from bacteria, fungi, insects and water.

Earwax can reveal a lot about your health

Besides ear conditions such as stenosis, excessive use of cotton swabs/Q-tips, wearing hearing aids and the aging of the skin and loss of elasticity can lead to excessive cerumen! Read before you pick another Q-tip.

 

1. Flaky Earwax

If you feel that your ear canal skin and ear wax is dry and flaky, it could be the sign of eczema. Eczema can also occur in the ear too and it is treatable. How to get rid of a flaky earwax

2. Yellow or Green Earwax

Color of normal earwax usually ranges from light orange to dark brown. But if your earwax is green or yellow or black, it suggests an infection. Ear infection could be triggered by various reasons like remaining of water in the ear etc.

 

3. Earwax dripping out

If you find a ear wax oozing out of your ear, or crusty bits of your earwax on your earlobe or pillow, these could be the signs of an ear infection or chronic ear disease.

 

4. Itchy earwax

If you getting this urge to constantly dig in your ears to relieve an itch, it  might be a sign that something’s wrong. Itching in and around ear canal are the sign of an infection. Try these natural remedies for earwax.

 

5. Smelly Earwax

It might be hard to believe but a healthy ear wax never has an odor. But if your earwax smells, it suggests an infection.

 

6. Dry or dark Earwax

If you find your earwax to be thicker, drier or darker than normal, it could be a sign of general aging. With age, earwax is suppose to get more drier and flakier.

 

If you get this persistent feeling of earwax in your canal, it might suggest that your ear canal is blocked and needs a cleaning. Cotton swabs or Qtips don’t actually clean our ear canal, instead they push the earwax further into the canal which can lead to buildup, irritation and even damage to hearing bones

Note : Do not use Q-Tips or cotton swabs to remove your earwax as they might cause more damage. They can be used to clean the outer ear only.
