To get rid of the water retention or fluid retention (retention of excess fluid, mainly in the form of water and fluid by the body), doctors usually prescribed diuretics. The function of diuretics is to stimulate kidneys to excrete more sodium into the urine.

Fluid retention may arise due to various factors such as hypertension, kidney dysfunction or kidney stones, liver cirrhosis, edema, PCOS and diabetes,  due to prolonged standing or sitting or taking certain medications or sodium rich foods.
