Low blood pressure occurs when the pressure of the blood in the arteries is abnormally low and typically recorded as systolic pressure (as the heart beats) over the diastolic pressure (time between the beats). A consistent blood pressure reading of 90/60 mmHg or lower is considered as low blood pressure. Various symptoms like dizziness, fainting etc. are associated with low blood pressure.

Common causes of low blood pressure could be dehydration, medications, infections, pregnancy and heart conditions. Here are the top 10 natural remedies to regulate low blood pressure.

1. Water

Drinking plenty of water can help regulating low blood pressure. Loss of intravascular fluid is one of the main causes of low blood pressure. When the total volume in the space inside the blood vessels decreases, it causes low BP, which could be due to dehydration and bleeding due to fatal injuries. To raise your low BP, drink plenty of water and other fluids like fruit juices, herbal teas etc.

2. Salt water

Taking a glass of water with salt can immediately increase your blood pressure. If you suffer from continuous low blood pressure, increase intake of oral rehydration solution, ORS in your diet. However, people with kidney and heart issues, should consult doctor.

3. Beetroot

There are many health benefits of Beetroot. Beetroot juice is helpful in dealing with both low and high blood pressure. For hypotension, drink a cup of beetroot juice twice daily for about one week. Drinking a glass of beetroot can have an immediate effect on lowering blood pressure in case of hypertension. High concentration of Nitrates in beetroot is converted to nitric oxide within the body which in turn relaxed blood vessels and lower blood pressure.

4. Basil Leaves (Tulsi)

There are many health benefits of Basil and being rich in Vitamin C, magnesium and potassium, it is beneficial for low blood pressure. Crush washed basil leaves and add 1 tsp of honey to it. Mix well and drink 2 times a day.

5. Cinnamon

There are many health benefits of cinnamon. It helps to raise blood pressure and moreover they also help in the functioning of the kidneys.

6. Licorice herb

Ingredient known as Glycerrhizin is a sweet tasting compound present in Licorice herb that when taken, increases the amount of aldosterone in the body which in turn retain sodium in your body while eliminating potassium. Sodium as in salt can raise your blood pressure. Long term use of Licorice is not recommended because of the retention of sodium in the body that can give rise to health complications.

7. Ginger

Ginger has many health benefits. It is used for both low as well as high blood pressure. Being a rich source of anti-oxidants and having anti-clotting, anti-inflammatory properties, it stimulates blood circulation and thus regulate blood pressure effectively.

8. Aniseeds

This spice has a high nutrient content of calcium, iron, copper, potassium etc. that increase the level of iron and potassium in our body. Aniseeds are also good source of Vitamin B complex. Blood pressure and Vitamins B has a close link. When body becomes deficient in Vitamin B -12, you become anemic and in turn your blood pressure may drop.

9.  Indian Spikenard or Jatamansi herb

This herb has certain alkaloids that stabilizes blood pressure and also considered as a good cardiac stimulant and treats heart palpitation.

10. Raisins

Raisins are traditional remedy for treating low blood pressure naturally. Soak 10-15 raisins overnight and eat them in the morning over empty stomach.
