Sage is an evergreen herb and has been listed as one of the essential herbs along with parsley, rosemary and thyme. It is used both as culinary herb and medicinal herb. Sage leaves have anti-hyperglycemic properties and helps  in improving high cholesterol levels in patients with Type-2 diabetes. Studies have shown that patient given sage leaf extracts for 3 months had lower fasting glucose levels. Their LDL (bad cholesterol) level was lowered and their good cholesterol increased in a healthy way.
