Top 10 Methods for treating Sciatic Pain

Sciatica is the most painful and disabling back problem. Sciatica pain arises when sciatica nerve is pinched which could cause numbness in the leg, buttock, thigh, lower leg or foot and can even cause weakness. This nerve runs from the lower spine over the buttock to both feet. Sciatic is actually a very common health issue but can be frightening. Medications can be used to control and help the painful symptoms of sciatica, but cannot cure the condition. So it is necessary and could be helpful if one can make the lifestyle changes necessary to help treat the underlying cause of it. Here are some of the natural methods you can opt to treat this health issue.

Valerian roots contain oils that have relaxant properties. Sciatica tea can be used to relieve sciatic nerve pain, especially the sciatic pain arising from muscle spasm. It is easy to prepare Valerian tea. Make sure to drink this herbal tea several times a week for few weeks.

There are numerous health benefits of Turmeric. Curcumin, which is present in turmeric, has found to have effect on neuropathic pain induced by sciatic nerve. It is actually proven to significantly reduce pain and inflammation. Add 1 teaspoon of turmeric in a cup of milk and bring it to boil. Add honey and drink it once or twice daily.

Pain and inflammation is caused by increases oxygenation of arachidonic acid leading to the production of prostaglandins. Research has found that ginger can be helpful in relieving pain and inflammation as it inhibits the production of prostaglandins. Mix two tablespoon of grated ginger with three tablespoons of sesame oil and one spoon of lemon juice and rub this mixture on affected area.

 

10. Horseradish or Sahijan ( In Ayurveda)

Horseradish is a plant and has many natural healing properties. It is beneficial in reducing sciatica pain. Grind half a horseradish and apply the paste on affected area. It helps in alleviating sciatic nerve pain.
